From the first page, this book broke my heart. I had put off reading it for this very reason–I thought this book would leave me feeling emotionally spent. The incredible thing about this book, however, was that the author's exquisite prose and powerful characters took me through that heartbreak and left me feeling like the world can, at the same time, be a beautiful and hopeful place.
